The race start was delayed due to the rain, and when it began, many drivers struggled with the slick conditions, leading to numerous spin-offs and crashes. Michael Schumacher, who qualified second, collided with Riccardo Patrese on the first lap, eliminating both from contention. In contrast, Senna excelled, navigating the rain-soaked streets with precision and calmness, building a commanding lead and leaving the rest of the field far behind.

The Victory

The race was eventually red-flagged on lap 78 due to another heavy downpour. Senna, with a comfortable lead, was declared the winner. This victory was particularly significant for the Brazilian driver. It marked his fifth win in Monaco, equalling the record held by the legendary Graham Hill.
